Which Teams Can Reach the Women’s Asia Cup Semi-Finals?

The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 group stage has now been completed, and the four teams reaching the semi-finals have been confirmed. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh finished inside the top two positions of their respective groups and will now compete for places in the final.

The tournament featured eight teams divided into two groups of four. Each team played three group-stage matches, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals. India topped Group A with six points, while Pakistan finished second with four points. In Group B, Sri Lanka finished first with six points and Bangladesh took second place with four points.

The qualification race therefore produced two unbeaten group winners and two strong runners-up. India and Sri Lanka won all three of their group matches, while Pakistan and Bangladesh each won two.

How Teams Qualified for the Semi-Finals

The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 qualification system was straightforward. The eight participating teams were divided into Group A and Group B, with four teams in each group.

Every team played three matches. A win earned two points, while a defeat gave a team no points. The top two teams from each group advanced to the semi-finals.

This meant that a team generally needed at least two victories to put itself in a strong qualification position. Net run rate also provided an important ranking factor when teams finished level on points.

By the end of the group stage, the qualification picture was clear.

Group A: India and Pakistan qualified.

Group B: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh qualified.

Thailand, Hong Kong, China, UAE and Indonesia were eliminated.

India Women: Group A Winners

India were the first team to establish themselves as a major semi-final contender.

They won all three of their Group A matches, collecting six points and finishing with a remarkable net run rate of +5.471.

India began their campaign with a 94-run victory over Thailand. They followed that with a 137-run victory against Hong Kong, China before finishing the group stage with a seven-wicket win over Pakistan.

The three victories made India the clear Group A winners.

Their campaign was impressive because they demonstrated different ways of winning. Their batting dominated against Thailand and Hong Kong, while their bowling attack produced a superb performance against Pakistan.

India’s group-stage dominance made them one of the leading favourites heading into the knockout stage.

Pakistan Women: Group A Runners-Up

Pakistan secured the second semi-final position from Group A.

They finished with four points after winning two of their three matches. Pakistan defeated Thailand by 35 runs, lost to India by seven wickets and then responded with a 72-run victory over Hong Kong, China.

The final victory was particularly important because it confirmed their place in the last four.

Pakistan’s bowling attack also produced one of the tournament’s most memorable performances during that match. Nashra Sundhu claimed six wickets for seven runs as Pakistan bowled Hong Kong out for 71. The victory secured Pakistan’s semi-final place.

Pakistan therefore moved into the knockout stage despite their defeat against India.

Sri Lanka Women: Group B Winners

Sri Lanka were equally impressive in Group B.

The defending champions won all three of their matches and finished with six points and a net run rate of +2.730.

They defeated UAE by nine wickets, Indonesia by 75 runs and Bangladesh by four wickets.

The perfect record confirmed Sri Lanka as Group B winners and ensured that they would face the second-placed team from Group A in the semi-final.

Their unbeaten campaign also means Sri Lanka remain one of the biggest threats to India’s hopes of winning the tournament.

As defending champions, Sri Lanka have the additional confidence of knowing what it takes to win the competition.

Bangladesh Women: Group B Runners-Up

Bangladesh claimed the final semi-final position after finishing second in Group B.

They won two of their three matches and collected four points. Their only group-stage defeat came against Sri Lanka.

The decisive result came in their final group match against UAE. Bangladesh scored 103 for seven before restricting UAE to 69 for nine, winning by 34 runs.

That victory gave Bangladesh the four points needed to finish second and confirm their place in the semi-finals. ICC described the match as the decisive fixture for the final semi-final position.

Bangladesh now face the biggest challenge of their tournament when they meet India.

Which Teams Were Eliminated?

Four teams finished outside the top two positions and therefore could not reach the semi-finals.

Thailand finished third in Group A with two points after winning one match and losing two.

Hong Kong, China finished fourth with zero points after losing all three matches.

In Group B, UAE finished third with two points after one victory and two defeats.

Indonesia finished fourth without a win and collected zero points.

The final standings show a clear separation between the four qualified teams and the four eliminated sides.

India vs Bangladesh: First Semi-Final

The first semi-final will be played between India and Bangladesh on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

India enter the match as Group A winners after a perfect three-win campaign. Bangladesh finished second in Group B with two victories.

On paper, India have the stronger tournament record, but the semi-final represents a completely new match.

Bangladesh will be hoping to use their underdog status to their advantage. India, meanwhile, will look to continue their unbeaten run and reach the final.

The match will also test India’s ability to maintain their consistency when the pressure increases. Their opening batters and spin attack have been major strengths throughout the group stage.

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan: Second Semi-Final

The second semi-final will feature Sri Lanka and Pakistan on September 11.

Sri Lanka qualified as Group B winners after winning all three matches. Pakistan finished second in Group A with four points.

Sri Lanka will enter the match with the advantage of an unbeaten record and the experience of being defending champions.

Pakistan, however, possess a dangerous bowling attack. Nashra Sundhu’s six-wicket haul against Hong Kong demonstrated the potential for Pakistan’s bowlers to completely change a match.

The contest could therefore become a battle between Sri Lanka’s overall consistency and Pakistan’s bowling strength.

Can India and Sri Lanka Reach the Final?

Yes, but both must win their respective semi-finals.

India need to defeat Bangladesh to reach the championship match.

Sri Lanka need to overcome Pakistan to secure the second final position.

If both group winners win, the final will be India versus Sri Lanka.

That would create an interesting championship matchup between two unbeaten teams. It would also bring together the most successful team in Women’s Asia Cup history and the defending champions.

Could There Be an India-Pakistan Final?

An India-Pakistan final is also possible.

For that to happen, India must defeat Bangladesh in the first semi-final, while Pakistan must defeat Sri Lanka in the second.

India already defeated Pakistan during the group stage, winning by seven wickets after dismissing Pakistan for just 55.

However, a final would be a completely different contest. Pakistan would have another opportunity to challenge India, while India would be looking to finish the tournament with the trophy.

The potential rivalry adds another layer of excitement to the knockout stage.

Could Bangladesh Reach the Final?

Bangladesh can absolutely reach the final, but they must overcome India first.

Their group-stage campaign demonstrated that they can perform under pressure. The victory over UAE in their final group match was particularly important because it secured their place in the last four.

Bangladesh will now need an even stronger performance against India.

Their route to the final is simple: defeat India in the semi-final and then beat the winner of Sri Lanka versus Pakistan.

Although India enter as favourites, knockout cricket can produce unexpected results.

Could Pakistan Defend Their Knockout Position?

Pakistan have already demonstrated that they can recover from a difficult result.

Their seven-wicket defeat against India was followed by an impressive 72-run victory over Hong Kong. The six-wicket haul from Nashra Sundhu provided a major boost before the semi-final.

Their challenge now is much tougher because Sri Lanka have remained unbeaten.

Pakistan will need both their batting and bowling departments to perform consistently if they are to reach the final.

Why India and Sri Lanka Are Strong Contenders

India and Sri Lanka have the strongest group-stage records among the remaining teams.

Both won all three of their matches and finished with six points.

India’s net run rate of +5.471 was particularly impressive, reflecting their large victories against Thailand and Hong Kong.

Sri Lanka’s +2.730 was also strong, and their three victories included convincing performances against UAE and Indonesia as well as a four-wicket victory over Bangladesh.

The unbeaten records make both teams natural favourites heading into the semi-finals, although neither can afford to underestimate its opponent.

What Happened to the Other Teams?

The elimination of Thailand, Hong Kong, UAE and Indonesia means that the tournament has now moved from eight teams to four.

Thailand and UAE each finished with two points after winning one match.

Hong Kong and Indonesia ended the group stage without a victory.

For these developing teams, however, the tournament still provided important international experience. Facing stronger opponents can help players and teams understand the level required to compete consistently in major Asian competitions.

The Final Qualification Picture

The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 semi-final qualification race is now complete.

The four remaining teams are:

India Women — Group A winners, 6 points

Pakistan Women — Group A runners-up, 4 points

Sri Lanka Women — Group B winners, 6 points

Bangladesh Women — Group B runners-up, 4 points

The confirmed semi-finals are:

India Women vs Bangladesh Women — September 10

Sri Lanka Women vs Pakistan Women — September 11

Both matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with the final scheduled for September 13.

What Comes Next?

The group stage has answered the question of which teams can reach the semi-finals. There are now only two matches separating the remaining teams from the Women’s Asia Cup trophy.

India will attempt to continue their unbeaten campaign against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka will try to maintain their title defence against Pakistan.

The winners of those two matches will meet in the final on September 13.

The four qualified teams have taken very different routes to this stage, but the points table no longer matters once the semi-finals begin. Every team starts the knockout stage with the same objective: win the next match.

India and Sri Lanka have the strongest group records, while Pakistan and Bangladesh have already shown that they can produce the results needed to qualify.

The stage is therefore set for two high-pressure semi-finals, with the winners earning the right to compete for the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 title.
